Loc: Extinct Town
Mud-brick buildings are being smoothed down by sandy winds. The remains of this town are seemingly uninhabited and the well in the center is dry.
To generate the map, drop a handful of dice onto paper. Mark down a building where each die lands and note its rolled value. D12s are two stories high. D20s are a smaller building on top of a larger building. There may or may not be a ladder.
Contents (the number rolled):
- Fragments of ancient pottery scattered across the floor, large jars that once held grains or other provisions.
- Exceptionally well-preserved ancient garments. Worth 10 silver x Depth to a collector.
- Walls, floors, or ceilings are severely cracked. 2d6 damage upon investigation of the building, as it collapses.
- Old chairs and table, worn by time and the harsh conditions.
- Concealed in the wall, a cache of 2d6 x Depth ancient silver pieces. Possibly worth double or more in archaeological and historical contexts.
- Something has made its home here: roll an Encounter.
- Threadbare rugs and carpets adorn the mud-brick floors. Forgotten garments left hanging in the corner, now covered in desert dust.
- A collection of intact amphorae containing preserved oils or wines. Worth 100 silver x Depth to connoisseurs.
- The building had its own water storage. It is full; however, it has gone foul.
- Faint traces of ancient murals are barely discernible on the walls.
- Precious ornament or jewelry, worth 100 silver x Depth.
- A massive statue looms in the corner of the structure, top-heavy and unstable. In its advanced age, it is at risk of collapsing on any who attempt to move it. DEX save or 3d6 damage.
- Wispy apparitions of long-departed inhabitants replay scenes from the past.
- A skillfully crafted weapon leans against the wall. Roll a weapon. It is intricate and lighter than usual; worth 100 silver x Depth.
- A potted plant, still thriving despite the building's age. The ingredient for a poultice that heals 1d6 STR damage; or, it can be cultivated in a dry environment.
- Mysterious glowing sigils are etched onto the mud-brick walls. Have no effect other than light and artistic expression.
- A smooth wooden box contains scrolls detailing historical records, recipes, or rituals. One describes the construction of an arcane device.
- Rune-carved stones are placed strategically around the inside of the structure to ward off negative energies or entities. This is a safe place to camp. With a week of study, the effect could be replicated in other rooms of the exact same size (carving and placement are critical).
- A random cursed magic item.
- A random magic item or arcana.
