Details #8-14 (Depthcrawl24)

Here are the next seven details for my depthcrawl project, Xeric Sands. This week was fairly straight-forward as well!

You can read the first seven here.

8. Lamp Post

A black, wrought-iron pillar stands with a lantern at its peak. It illuminates a radius of 120 feet around it, though it can be seen from a ways off in the dark. In many cases it will seem out of place, with no clues to its origin.

(Note: This is a staple of Allen's depthcrawls; I may or may not keep it in mine, but I think it's cute.)

9. Diamond Sands

This area is notable as a source of diamonds, glittering half-buried by the earth.

Entering the area for the first time, and each turn spent surveying for diamonds after, reveals one stone worth 1g × Depth. In addition, roll a d6 and note its value. If you roll the same number twice in this area, the diamond supply is exhausted (at the surface at least).

10. Qanat Wells

The area features a long line of wells, spaced about 75 feet apart from each other, stretching as far as the eye can see. Each shaft descends 30 feet × Depth to an underground aqueduct; the water within is potable but the aqueduct is not navegable.

11. Stone Columns

Rows or rings of chipped, worn, decaying sandstone columns stand in the area. Some lay on their sides, toppled or chopped low. Once finely detailed. The structures cast long shadows at dawn and dusk.

12. Sky Visions

Bright objects floating above the desert. During the day, shining, like a signal mirror aloft; At night, blinking lights—red, green, blue, red, green, blue. Surely never to be reached.

13. Soaked

A thin layer of water collects on the desert floor, as after an unexpected rain. At night, the water drains into the earth, its speed depending on the permeability of the surface. During the day it rapidly evaporates.

14. Ash-Laden

At first glance, a landscape of black sand or rock. Upon closer inspection, surfaces here are covered in ash. Any critters are stained a dark grey. In calm weather, specks float like blackened snow. After leaving the area, wanderers leave conspicuous footprints through the next area unless they take a turn to clean their foot gear.

If you're vibing with this project so far, please check it out on my Itch page! I'm updating the pdf and increasing the price as each section is finished, so it's best to get in early. The next upload will be at the end of Details, in about three weeks.
