Details #22-28 (Depthcrawl24)

The fourth week of details for my depthcrawl project, Xeric Sands, is done! Trying to find the line between too-weird and weird-enough...

You can also read the third week here.

22. Magnetic Gravity

Some material beneath the surface doubles the gravity for metal items specifically.

In this area, metal items are treated as though they were Bulky. Items that are already Bulky count as the equivalent of three Bulky items (a character carrying one has their Hit Protection reduced to 0).

23. Chasm

The area has been torn asunder. A chasm stretches far in both directions, but the other side is close enough to jump across in most cases. Make two saves: a STR save to make it to the other side and a DEX save to land safely on your feet. The bottom is deep, further than most rope supplies.

24. Smoldering

The area is charred and, in patches, glowing orange, like the remains of a bonfire. Avoiding hot spots is easy, though make a DEX save vs. d6 fire damage if a wanderer loses their footing or runs blind. Smoky conditions impair ranged attacks in the area.

25. Rolling

The ground undulates at a regular rhythm, like the waves of a sea, and structures sway as though under heavy wind. Walking about is easy enough, but feats of dexterity may require a save.

26. Unnerving

A fine dust hangs in the air like thick mist, blotting out the sun and casting the world in beige-grey. Eerie sounds echo through the particulate matter and figures stalk just out of sight. Animals grow jumpy here; make a WIL save with each command given (including for those given to hirelings!).

27. Windtraps

The landscape is dotted with netted rod-structures. The fine mesh fabric of the nets feeds moisture into collection vials anchored to the poles.

There is a 1-in-6 chance that enough moisture has been collected for one day's water ration; if so, there is a 1-in-6 chance there is another, and so on. Repeat this process each dawn.

28. Entrancing

This area holds sway over desert wanderers of the sapient variety. Whether the result of psychogenic particulates, extrasensory resonance, or ley magics, this location induces visions and prophecy. The next time you would be surprised, you will in fact be well-prepared.

Heads Ups

There is now one week until the details section is finished! Once it gets added to the Itch PDF, the price will go up to $8.

I've also put together a little pocket-zine to go with this project. Deep Hexes presents a method and template for mapping a depthcrawl on a hex grid. Check that out too!
