Loc: Dark Monolith
A pillar of deep black stone stands some ten feet tall, carved with intricate, glowing runes. Those with arcane knowledge or possessions feel a pull toward the monolith.
As they get closer, they can see d4 skeletons slumped or scattered at the base of the monolith and d4 random arcana (or magic items) adhered to the stone.
If they move closer still, the pull intensifies:
- Each wanderer with arcane knowledge must make a WIL save or become fixed to the pillar along the length of their body (if they die or otherwise lose their abilities, they become unfixed).
- Wanderers carrying arcana in hand must make a STR save to keep it from flying at the pillar and becoming fixed.
- If arcana are not in hand, but on a wanderer's person, they may make a DEX save to grab one arcanum before it flies away (followed by the STR save as normal).
- If the wanderers do not take the opportunity to go deeper or go back, well, make them repeat the save until they or their items become attached.
The monolith resists non-magical means to detach magic-users and arcana. Spells that dispel magic will work for a short time (whether cast on the monolith itself or the items attached). The monolith itself weighs about two tons, plus whatever is attached to it.
